Butterworth, George

George Butterworth (1885-1916) was a classical musician with an interest in folk music. He studied under Charles Wood at the Royal College of Music, but did not complete the course. He worked as a folk song collector and assistant to Vaughan Williams. He died on active service in the Battle of the Somme.
