Ritchie, Jean & Pickow, George
Back to collectorsJean Ritchie (1923-2015) was a traditional singer from Kentucky who from the 50s onwards was very involved in the folk scene in New York. Whilst many performers were singing self-panned songs, she was singing tradional songs learnt from her family. In the 1950s, she and her husband George Pickow came to England to collaborate with English folklorist Peter Kennedy to document British folk songs, with George acting as cameraman and photographer.
