This curious songs apparently comes from an 1887 publication as “The Magpie said “Come in” … Banjo Song”, written by Harry Hunter. It is quite rare in tradition, only about 5 versions coming to light, one in Warwickshire, one in Worcestershire and two in the USA, as well as our Gloucestershire one.
