The title might suggest an Irish origin to this song, but in fact it appears on many broadsides printed in England as far back as the 18th century. It has been collected many times in the UK but not in the USA. It is often favoured by gypsy singers. The name of the seducer varies and is often given as Captain Thunderbolt.
