This song was written by Thomas Widdicombe Connor (1864?-1936), who composed songs and monologues for the British music hall, including working with Billy Bennett on monologues.  So far as is known, this is the only time that the song has appeared in oral tradition.

Humour at the expense of mother-in-laws has changed greatly since this song was written, mercifully.
