This song has only been collected a few times, and mainly in southern England, although the first reference, in 1892, is to a Yorkshire version. So far as is known, it does not derive from a broadside. However, it has been around long enough to have sprouted several variants and titles, including “Epsom Races” and “Ingatestone/Eggleston Hall”.
