Performer: Children
Place Collected: Stanton
Date collected: 1909 (8 Apr)
Collector: Sharp, Cecil

A children’s singing game known almost universally as “Old Roger is Dead”, but obviously the children of Gloucestershire were more lateral thinking and the corpse becomes Robinson Crusoe or Cock Robin. Versions of this game have been found throughout the English-speaking world. No doubt children are thrilled by the ghoulishness of the corpse jumping into life.
