This song, with its robust attitude towards casual sex, has proved vastly popular with country singers, with the vast majority of versions coming from England. The fact that it was printed over and over again probably helped with its popularity. Apart from Mr Hands’ version, the only other known version from Gloucestershire is a fragmentary one from Mr Ballinger of Brockworth, recorded in the 70s.
