Not to be confused with “The Green Mossy Banks of the Lea” which has a similar beginning. This is a song that has been frequently collected in England and Scotland but not in the USA, at least not in the form sung in Gloucestershire. However, there are similarities to the songs “When First unto this Country” and “The Plains of America.”
