This charming but rather twee song appears unique to this county. Similar songs praising the farmer who runs the farm and viewing country life through rather rose-tinted glasses are not unknown, however, and this is one of that genre. Nevertheless, it deserves to be sung, if only for its rousing chorus.
This is the only time the song has been collected, except for its turning up once in Sussex, but even this can be traced back to the 1840 Gloucestershire publication
