There really aren’t buffaloes in Gloucestershire, let along ‘wild indians’ or ‘sugar canes’ but this song obviously found some resonance among country singers.  The song itself goes back over 200 years as The Buffalo.  It has been collected a handful of times in England and scarcely more in the USA.
