It is always tempting to imagine that folk songs refer to real incidents.  This may be the case but no Robinson-Tyler fight can be traced, and so the trail runs cold.  It is rare song but goes back to at least a printed version of 1867 and it has been collected a mere handful of times, mainly in England.
