Karpeles, Maud

Maud Karpeles (1885-1986) was an important figure in the area of folk music.  She became a close follower of Cecil Sharp and accompanied him on many folk music collecting expeditions, including notably the Appalachian Moutains of the USA at the time of WWI.  After Sharp’s death in 1924, she continued his legacy and curated his collection.  She collected in many locations. including Gloucestershire, and collaborated with Pat Shuldam Shaw to collect a version of the Cherry Tree Carol in Cinderford.  A fuller account of her life can be found here.
