This is certainly a look at country living through rose-coloured spectacles.  This idealised view of farming life is quite old, with printed versions going back to possibly the 18th century.  It is surprisingly rare in tradition, as apart from our Gloucestershire version, it has only been found in Northamptonshire and in Sussex, notably in the reportoire of the Copper family as “The Brisk and Bonny Lad”.
