A song which would have been very pertinent when transportation for sometimes menial offences was a real possibility. As a complete song it has been found rarely in oral tradition, and mainly in the southern counties, but some of the verses have found their way, as floating verses, into other songs, A better known version of the same song is the Australian “Botany Bay”.
