This humorous ditty goes back a couple of hundred years, with the title “Summer was Over” or “Naught else to do”.  It seems probable that the song got tranformed at some stage into the comic song “My name is Bill Muggins” or “I Don’t Mind/Care if I do” (Roud 847) although the two songs happily co-existed.  In this format the song only appears in England.
