A song which is probably better known than collectors would have us believe, given its singability, joviality and the possibility of remembering it on one hearing. The song is at least 200 years old, with a Scottish version dating from 1815. It is widely sung in the USA.

For a Gloucestershire version with a tune, see http://glostrad.com/i-wish-i-was-single-again/.
