Bonnets so Blue.
Jacobite troops wore a blue bonnet with a white cockade. So tunes with these references have Jacobite associations. The tune is in James S. Kerr’s Merry Melodies, Vol 2, № 312, ca 1880. Perhaps inevitably, it is referred to as a “Scotch Jig”.

Charles Pitts was recorded playing the melodeon by Russell Wortley at Brize Norton, Oxfordshire, on 21 May 1956. Pitts’ family came from Sherborne (Glos).
