This mock rustic song has proved itself popular with country singers, probably from a recording of the song made by Charlie Higgins in 1931, but the song may well be older. Apart from Ken Langsbury’s version, it was also collected from Alex Innes of Cheltenham in 1975 and from Jackie Booth of Stroud in 1979.
